FACE was founded in 1977 and is based in Brussels. FACE was created by the national hunting associations of 9 European countries. The necessity for hunters to be aware of the decisions taken in Brussels and have a representative voice present had become clear. The adoption of the Birds Directive in 1979 as a major piece of EU environmental legislation covering all bird species in Europe signaled the beginning of the growing importance of the EU for hunters everywhere. FACE aims to sustain hunting cultures across Europe. Essentially, the primary work of FACE is to ensure an enabling political environment for hunters, and to ensure that hunters have nature to enjoy and wildlife for hunting. FACE and hunters contribute valuable information and expertise to the EU decision-making process.
